National – Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has met with Lt Col Ash Wiseman, the British Defence Attaché to Uganda, to discuss enhancing military cooperation between the two nations. The meeting, held at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe, focused on deepening ties in training, capacity-building, and regional security operations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building on the longstanding defence relations between Uganda and the UK. The UK has a history of providing training for Ugandan officers at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where Gen Kainerugaba himself graduated. The UK has also supported Uganda’s participation in peace support operations and counter-terrorism initiatives in the region.
Uganda has been a key player in regional stability efforts, deploying troops under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and participating in joint operations in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Analysts emphasize the importance of Uganda’s military cooperation with traditional partners like the UK in maintaining regional security.

The meeting between Gen Kainerugaba and Lt Col Wiseman underscores the significance of sustained international defence partnerships in addressing terrorism and piracy threats in East Africa.
