Rubirizi, Uganda – A thanksgiving Mass held in Nyakabare Cell, Rubirizi District, celebrated not only divine blessings but also the extraordinary generosity of the Bamugaya family.
The event, organized by Mr. Tumusiime Vincent Bamugaya and his wife, Madam Kwesiga Rosebel Akiki, raised funds to complete the construction of the Ndekye Catholic Center under Rugazi Catholic Parish.
Rev. Fr. Lawrence Mwesigye, deputy parish priest of Rugazi Catholic Parish, delivered a sermon emphasizing the importance of gratitude, urging residents to thank God for their blessings, both large and small. He condemned prevalent societal ills such as witchcraft, hatred, murder, theft, and domestic violence, advocating for a community built on faith and goodwill.

Mr. and Mrs. Bamugaya shared their personal journey of faith, explaining their annual Easter Monday tradition of giving thanks for life, family, successful projects (including their Rural Initiatives for Poverty Alleviation, or RIPA, project), and even the challenges they face. Mr. Bamugaya stressed that thanking God isn’t about avoiding hardship but about acknowledging His presence through all circumstances. He encouraged others to embrace gratitude and support community development.
The Bamugaya family’s contributions to Rubirizi are substantial. Their donations include over 400 bags of cement and all roofing materials for Ndekye Catholic Church; 100 bags of cement to Kyabalanga Catholic Church in Kyenjojo; support for Kagarama Catholic Church in Nyakasharu; a pavilion donation to Rugazi Catholic Parish; and a 10 million shilling pledge to the same parish. Their RIPA project has also funded the construction of a convent at Rugazi and provided significant financial support, cement, and livestock to various churches.
Madam Kwesiga expressed gratitude for her life and family, praising her husband’s public acknowledgment of their blessings.
The event drew numerous dignitaries, including political leaders Hon. John Twesigye Ntamuhira, Hon. Judith Amanya, Mr. Semakura Laurance Bamugaya (Accountant General, Ministry of Finance), and Mr. Aguba Silvester, Rubirizi District Chairperson (LC5). Mr. Aguba lauded the Bamugaya family’s contributions to the district administration block and their extensive anti-poverty initiatives, which include providing livestock and promoting commercial agriculture. He urged the community to emulate their generosity and protect the positive impact they have created.
Hon. Ntamuhira echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of consistent gratitude, regardless of wealth, and contributed a goat to support the event.
The Bamugaya family’s example serves as a powerful testament to the transformative power of faith, generosity, and community engagement in Rubirizi. Their actions inspire hope and demonstrate the significant impact individuals can have on their communities.
