Bushenyi,Uganda – Bushenyi District Police are investigating circumstances surrounding a suspected case of suicide by hanging that occurred on 30th May 2026 at approximately 4:00 a.m. in Rwanziro Cell, Kashambya Ward, Bitooma Town Council.
According to Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson SP. Apollo Tayebwa, the deceased has been identified as Kato Junior, 32, a resident of the same area.
Tayebwa said preliminary investigations show that Kato left home during the night after telling his wife he had heard someone stealing matooke. “When he did not return, his wife searched for him and later discovered his body hanging from an avocado tree in a nearby coffee plantation,” Tayebwa explained.

Police responded promptly, examined and documented the scene, and recorded statements from witnesses. The body was post-mortem examined and later handed over to the family for burial.
Tayebwa noted that initial findings indicate the deceased had a history of mental health challenges and had reportedly been prevented from attempting self-harm on previous occasions. “Investigations are ongoing and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” he added.
The spokesperson strongly urged members of the public to ensure family members with suspected mental health issues seek timely medical care to avoid such tragedies.
“We pray for the soul of the deceased to rest in peace and extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved family,” Tayebwa said.
