Rubirizi, Uganda – A tragic hit-and-run accident claimed the life of 20-year-old Aijuka Thomson, a resident of Kacwampare village in Katanga sub-county, Rubirizi District, on Friday evening.
The incident occurred at Ndekye trading center along the Rubirizi-Kasese Road at approximately 7:30 PM.
Preliminary investigations by the Rubirizi traffic department indicate that Thomson was riding a motorcycle (Reg. No. UGB 422Q) when he attempted to avoid a pedestrian who suddenly crossed the road.

A passing trailer, yet to be identified, struck Thomson, causing his immediate death. A passenger on the motorcycle, 16-year-old Nimusiima Judith, sustained injuries and was taken to Rugazi Health Centre IV for treatment.
Police recovered the motorcycle and transported the deceased’s body to the same medical facility for a post-mortem examination. The scene was secured and managed by authorities.
“We urge the public to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations,” said Police Spokesperson Sp. Apollo Tayebwa. “Life is precious and irreplaceable. We will continue to update the public on our investigation’s progress.”
The Rubirizi traffic department is now appealing for information regarding the identity of the driver of the unidentified trailer involved in the accident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the relevant authorities.
End.
