RUBIRIZI, UGANDA – Leaders in Rubirizi District have officially endorsed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for President of Uganda in 2031 and beyond.
Gen. Kainerugaba is the Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), the Chief of Defence Forces, and son of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The endorsement function was held on Friday, 18th September 2026 at the Rubirizi District Headquarters. The Chief Guest was Asiimwe Evarist, the National PLU Coordinator for Youth and Sports.
Asiimwe, who hails from Buzenga in Bunyaruguru County, described Gen. Muhoozi as a generational leader who believes in fair leadership and ensuring people benefit from government starting at the grassroots.
He said their main aim is to ensure transparent leadership and fight corruption. He added that Minister Balaam Barugahara is expected in Rubirizi in the coming weeks as part of the anti-corruption campaign.
Rubirizi PLU District Coordinator Mr. Nickolas Twinamatsiko thanked residents for supporting NRM and PLU, saying the two are one family since PLU is a movement under the ruling National Resistance Movement.
“Young trees are the ones that make up a forest, and if you harvest a tree you plant a fresh one. We are here to ensure steady progress and socio-economic transformation for all Ugandans,” Twinamatsiko said.
He said Gen. Muhoozi, as PLU Chairman, is seeking support for his candidature and called upon at least 170,000 people from 270 villages in Rubirizi to support him for a better and stable Uganda.

Other coordinators including Mushemeza Genius for Katerera and Innocent Byamukama Ssalongo for Bunyaruguru emphasized self-sacrifice and cooperation to achieve a common goal. They clarified that PLU is not a political party but a patriotic movement under NRM meant to ensure transparency, freedom and a corruption-free Uganda.
Members of Parliament including Rubirizi Woman MP Hon. Arinaitwe Jeniva and Bunyaruguru County MP Hon. Cadet Benjamin also endorsed Gen. Muhoozi. They assured Ugandans that PLU is not against NRM but works hand-in-hand with it under the slogan “Tuko Pamoja”.

They said just as Gen. Museveni had a vision, Gen. Muhoozi has a good vision for Uganda and urged people to join PLU not just for numbers but to help transform the country.
The function was attended by District LC5 Chairperson Agaba Ben Byakureka, NRM Vice Chairperson Kanyakore Sayid Peter, Assistant RDC Buhweju Bebembiire Mathias Kakoni, and Kicwamba Sub-county LC3 Chairperson Kazoora Bandekye Bamuturaki, among others.
Residents who attended welcomed the idea and vowed to support Gen. Muhoozi, saying he has already shown capacity by leading a disciplined military and championing the anti-corruption campaign.
