BUSHENYI – Following public outcry over the deteriorating state of the Mbarara-Ishaka Road and the St. Kagwa Town Road, which has become a hotspot for accidents, the Ministry of Works and Transport has swiftly intervened.
The development follows a formal matter raised on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday this week by Hon. Katusiime Annette Mugisha, Woman MP for Bushenyi District, who requested the Ministry to urgently conduct a comprehensive road monitoring exercise to assess the situation and propose lasting solutions.
In a swift response, a technical team from the Ministry of Works and Transport on Thursday morning undertook a special field visit to the affected areas at St. Kagwa to evaluate the challenges and identify immediate remedial measures.

Speaking during the assessment, Hon. Katusiime expressed her sincere gratitude to the Ministry for their quick and timely response.
She further appealed for the installation of urgent temporary safety measures, including road signs, road cameras, speed-reducing humps, and zebra crossings, to safeguard the lives of road users.
In their response, the Ministry team assured Hon. Katusiime and the community that all the requested temporary measures will be fully installed before the end of December 2026.
The exercise was also attended by the District Traffic Officer, Bushenyi, who provided alarming accident death figures to the team and highlighted why serious intervention is urgently needed, the Chairman LC1 St. Kagwa, who raised the alarm over persistent accidents, and other stakeholders.
Residents have welcomed the intervention, expressing hope that the promised measures will significantly reduce accidents along the busy highway.
END.

Thank you Hon Katusiime Mugisha for the follow up. Actually this road needs a quick intervention.
