BUSHENYI – A prominent Catholic Laity Leader, Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha, has issued a powerful ecumenical statement in response to the Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni, Bishop of West Ankole Diocese, over the coincidence of two major church fundraising functions on October 25th, 2026.
The two functions – one at St. Kagwa Catholic Parish for its Platinum Administration and Classroom Block, and another for the completion of Bweranyangi Anglican Cathedral – had sparked public speculation after falling on the same date.
In his letter addressed to “Friends and Brethren,” Eng. Dr. Mugisha wholeheartedly agreed with Bishop Twinomujuni’s earlier clarification that the overlap is not sabotage or rivalry.

In the true spirit of ecumenism, I want to wholeheartedly agree with the Bishop’s message. This scheduling overlap is purely a coincidence of independent planning processes. It is absolutely not a result of rivalry, sabotage, or ill intention,” Mugisha wrote.
“Both of these functions are ours – they belong to the wider body of Christ. There is no ‘theirs’ or ‘ours’ when we are working to advance the kingdom of God.”
Eng. Dr. Mugisha cited a similar recent incident in Mbarara, where functions at Ruharo and Nyamitanga were held at the same time without any conflict.
“I was a personal witness to the recent, identical situation in Mbarara, where an important function at Ruharo and another at Nyamitanga happened at the exact same time. There was absolutely no problem at all. The community embraced both events with maturity, love, and joy. We can easily do the same here,” he noted.
He urged Christians to pursue mechanisms of building bridges rather than destroying them, warning against allowing a simple coincidence of calendars to create suspicion or division.
He anchored his message on Scripture, quoting Ephesians 4:3: _”Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”_
In a remarkable show of unity, Mugisha revealed that he has already personally contributed to both fundraising drives, mirroring the generosity shown by Bishop Twinomujuni who had also pledged to contribute to the Catholic function.
“I warmly urge all of us to adopt this same mindset. Let us support both efforts according to our abilities. If you are invited to both, please attend both where practical, or honor the invitations with a joyful heart,” he appealed.
“Let us stand together to prove that two Christian functions can take place on the same day in absolute harmony. May love, respect, and unity prevail.”
END.

Unity for all
