KAMPALA,UGANDA — President Yoweri Museveni has dismissed six senior engineers and one legal officer from the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, UCAA.
The officials include the Engineer-in-Chief, the Director of Airports, and project managers for major roads such as Masaka-Mutukula and for preparations for the 2027 AFCON tournament.
According to the President’s letter, the sackings were due to massive corruption that caused serious delays and inflated costs on key infrastructure projects, as well as operational problems at Entebbe Airport.

President Museveni specifically accused three of the engineers of altering the Busega-Mpigi Expressway route so it would pass through their own private land instead of the original path for which government had already paid compensation.
This forced taxpayers to pay fresh compensation money and helped push the project cost from Shs600 billion to Shs1.3 trillion, with only 40 percent of the work completed.
The President said the move is part of efforts to clean up the sector and stop the waste of public money.
Investigations are still ongoing to establish the full extent of the issues.
The dismissals signal government’s commitment to fixing Uganda’s roads and airports to ensure development projects are delivered on time and within budget.
