NTUNGAMO,UGANDA – More than 119 families in Rugarama North Sub-county are living without toilets, a situation driving open defecation and raising the risk of preventable diseases in the community.
Findings from the first sanitation assessment show Kyafoora Parish is the most affected area. At least 36 households there are classified as high-risk due to widespread open defecation, low latrine coverage, and poor sanitation practices.
The assessment warns that the lack of adequate sanitation facilities remains a serious public health concern. Residents are being exposed to diseases linked to poor hygiene and environmental contamination.

Local health and community leaders are expected to use the findings to prioritize interventions and increase latrine coverage in the affected areas.
