A controversy is engulfing The Very Reverend Robert Baluku, OSB, who is slated to be consecrated as an Auxiliary Bishop for the Monastic Diocese of St. Athanasius in Uganda, under the Orthodox Church of America.
A group of concerned citizens has raised serious questions regarding the legitimacy of Bishop-Elect Baluku.
According to an anonymous message, Bishop-Elect Baluku lacks formal training from a seminary, divinity-bible college, or theology institution, which is widely considered a fundamental requirement for the title and office of a Bishop. The message further alleges that Bishop-Elect Baluku is not a member of the church in question and is, in fact, a layman with no known clergy training.

The concerned citizens are vehemently challenging Bishop-Elect Baluku’s priestly training and church academic qualifications, insistently urging him to provide verifiable proof of his church academic training and experience.
They deem his title to be “illicit and invalid” due to alleged simony and lay investiture. The response from the Orthodox Church of America to these allegations, alongside Bishop-Elect Baluku’s credentials, will be pivotal in resolving this controversy. The church’s official stance on this matter will serve to clarify the situation, providing much-needed insight into the legitimacy of Bishop-Elect Baluku’s title.
This controversy has ignited a heated debate, with many within the community and the church pondering the potential implications of these actions.
A thorough investigation, coupled with transparent communication from church authorities, is deemed necessary to address the concerns of the community and restore peace.
Investigation Ongoing
As the scheduled announcement of Bishop-Elect Baluku as a Bishop on August 3, 2025, draws near, the authenticity of his claims and the legitimacy of his title remain under intense scrutiny. The community is anxiously awaiting his response to these allegations, fervently hoping for a resolution that will bring clarity and peace.
End.
