NTUNGAMO,UGANDA – Ugandans have been urged to prioritize education and good parenting to raise responsible future citizens and prevent illiteracy from luring the young generation into non-productive activities.
The call was made by Bishop Robert Baluku of the Orthodox Church under the American Orthodox Church during an engagement meeting with parents of Rise and Shine Nursery and Primary School at the school premises. The meeting discussed ways pupils can achieve their goals through education.
Bishop Baluku, who plans to establish a hospital and other development infrastructure in Nyeihanga, Kyabukuju Ward, Rubaare Town Council, said some parents are neglecting education, which should be the first priority for their children.

He noted that a child can drop out of school, start a business, and afford cars and other expensive items, but may fail at basic calculations and run the business to the ground due to lack of knowledge.
“Parents should keep their children in school to acquire knowledge that will help them as employees or employers,” Baluku said. He also asked parents to support the school where needed.
Hon. Enos Kangume, representing Kyabukuju Ward at Rubaare Town Council and designated Secretary for Education and Sports, vowed to secure a license for the school. He appealed to teachers to remain focused on the pupils and said the school can develop where parents, teaching staff, the school’s board of directors, and the district education department cooperate and comply with directives.
Parents Boaz Twazarwa and Ninsiima Ester said the school has brought relief, as their children no longer have to trek long distances for education and are less exposed to risks from strangers and accidents.
The school has also introduced temperature screening machines for pupils and visitors to curb the spread of Ebola, in line with Ministry of Health standard operating procedures.
