RUBIRIZI,UGANDA – Residents of Kikuba Village in Ndekye Ward are celebrating after a new clean water project funded by Bunyaruguru MP Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturohas been completed.
The project, which cost over UGX 6 million, is expected to provide safe, clean water to more than 500 residents in Kikuba and neighboring villages, ending years of walking long distances to fetch water. Some residents say people had lost their lives on Lake Kigezi while searching for water.
Community members led by Tumwesigye Mangara and Kasande Merab turned up in large numbers to thank the MP. They said the project will reduce water-borne diseases and save women and children the time previously spent fetching water from distant sources.

“For years we have been suffering and our children missed school. Women walked kilometers for water, but Hon. Cadet has given us life,” one resident said. “On behalf of Kikuba Village, we say thank you Hon. Cadet Benjamin for your donation and support of this water project. May Allah bless you.”
Local leaders led by Hon. Tugume Muzafaru, area councilor for Ndekye Town, said the project will improve health, boost sanitation, and support small gardens in the village. He called on the community to protect and take ownership of the project.
Hon. Cadet Benjamin thanked the community for their support and pledged to continue working on development projects that directly impact people’s lives. He said the project will address persistent water problems in the area and pledged to completely end water scarcity in Bunyaruguru Constituency by 2040.
