Greater Bushenyi, Uganda – The Greater Bushenyi Police have launched a full investigation into the murder of 38-year-old Byabashaija Alfred, a resident of Rwamuniori Village in Mitooma District.
The deceased was found dead in a pool of blood with facial injuries along the path leading to his home in the early hours of March 16, prompting a serious police inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to police reports, Alfred received fatal injuries following an altercation after selling coffee at a nearby trading center on the evening of March 15, 2025.
Witnesses say he was last seen alive at a local bar where he went to drink after selling his goods. His body was discovered early the next day, sparking confusion and fear in the usually quiet community.
SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and provided details on the ongoing investigation. “We are treating this case with the utmost urgency and seriousness.
A comprehensive crime scene investigation has already taken place, and we are actively pursuing all leads to identify the suspects involved,” Tumusiime stated.
During the initial inquiry, a team of detectives examined the crime scene, where the deceased was found.
A bloodstained stick, believed to be the murder weapon, was retrieved from a nearby garden after police dogs tracked it approximately 500 meters from the body.
Police also noted that attempts had been made to burn the body, as indicated by a partially burnt shirt found at the scene, and an abandoned matchbox.
Dr. Turyakiira Sabastian conducted a post-mortem examination at the scene, revealing multiple head injuries as the cause of death.
As investigations continue, authorities are looking to establish the identity of the bar owner where Alfred drank and gather more testimonies from witnesses.
“We urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist us in our inquiries. The safety and security of our community is our top priority, and we are committed to delivering justice,” SSP Tumusiime added.
As the investigation unfolds, local residents are left grappling with the shocking event that has shaken their community.
