BUSHENYI,UGANDA — Mr. Magezi George, Chairman LC1 Ryamabengwa Cell, Ryamabengwa Ward in Central Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, has asked voters to put aside past campaign wrangles and focus on stabilizing and developing their community.
He was speaking after winning the LC1 elections held on Tuesday, 28th July 2026. He garnered 84 votes, defeating Mr. Mwesigye who got 67 votes.
The election recorded a huge turnout and ended in celebrations as excited voters flocked Mr. Magezi’s home for dancing and to listen to guest speakers.

The function was graced by various dignitaries including LC4 Councilor Mr. Mwebaze Dezi and LC2 leaders. During the event, the chairman unveiled the new committee members who will work with him.
Meanwhile, tension broke out in Rushozi II village on Tuesday afternoon after LCI results were announced, declaring Mr. Twebaze Modern, the NRM flag bearer, the winner with 66 votes.
His rival, Mr. Didas Behangana, an independent candidate, polled 60 votes. But the announcement was immediately rejected by Mr. Behangana’s supporters, who accused officials of vote theft and caused chaos in the area.
Mr. Natukunda Edward, a resident of Rushozi II and supporter of Mr. Behangana told Crane Radio:
“They stole the votes. The results announced do not reflect what people voted for.”
Ms. Twongirwe Peninah, the Registrar from Katenga Sub County who oversaw the tally, announced Mr. Twebaze Modern as the winner. She insisted the process was fair and followed all electoral guidelines.
Mr. Modern welcomed the declaration and called for calm among residents.
Following the announcement, Mr. Behangana proceeded to Katenga Sub County headquarters to formally lodge a complaint over the results.
Residents said there was no security deployed at the polling area during the counting, which they believe contributed to the unrest.
Local leaders have called for calm as sub county authorities review the complaint. No injuries were reported.
