RUKIGA – One person has died on spot after being involved in a motorvehicle accident along Kamwezi – Rutobo road in Rukiga district.
The accident happened on Thursday 21st March 2024 at around 2pm and imvolved a Toyota premio registration number UAY 139T that was being driven by Nuwamanya Geoffrey aged 52 a resident of Mutojo village, Kigara parish in Kamwezi Sub County Rukiga district.
Eye witnesses told our reporter that the deceased suspected to be of unsound mind had a panga trying to slash grass along the roadside and when the motorvehicle was coming from Kamwezi heading to Rubaare, he abruptly stood in the middle of the road then cut the bonnet of the vehicle on the front screen plus trying to cut the driver who accelerated himself in self defence and the deceased hit himself on front screen dying on spot.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident to this reporter revealing that the primarily cause of the accident is the carelessness of the pedestrian (deceased).
He confirms that police detained the driver for questioning and towed the Vehicle to Rukiga Central Police Station pending iov inspection.
