Buhweju,Uganda – Kashenyi-Kajani Town Council in Buhweju District has issued a sweeping trade order to clear illegal structures and street vending, with enforcement set to begin on Wednesday, 7th May 2026.
In a public notice issued by the Office of the Town Clerk in April 2026, the council said the exercise seeks to restore cleanliness, order, and proper business operations across the fast-growing town council.
The directive targets kiosks and temporary structures erected along streets, illegal shades and unauthorized building extensions, businesses operating outside designated shop premises, and street vendors trading in undesignated areas. All affected structures and merchandise must be removed before the enforcement date to avoid inconvenience.

Traders and landlords have also been instructed to improve sanitation by clearing dirty surroundings, maintaining clean trade spaces, and repainting buildings within the business centre to enhance the town’s appearance.
Local leaders, including chairpersons of trading centres, traders’ associations, and LC1 officials, have been tasked with sensitizing residents and business operators about the new directive.
The notice, signed by Town Clerk Bazookire Joseph, emphasized the council’s commitment to enforcing trade order regulations and advancing planned urban development. “This move is intended to streamline trade operations and raise sanitation standards,” the statement read.
The announcement has drawn mixed reactions. Some business operators welcome the plan, saying it will reduce congestion and improve hygiene in the town. Others, especially street vendors and small-scale kiosk owners who rely on roadside trade for daily survival, fear the loss of livelihoods.
Residents now await further guidance from town authorities on possible relocation plans and designated trading areas for vendors affected by the operation.
