Bushenyi, Uganda – Hajji Iddi Basajjabalaba secured a resounding victory in the Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality NRM primaries for the parliamentary flag bearer, achieving a landslide win over his opponents.
Basajjabalaba garnered 13,765 votes (73.3%), significantly outpacing Marvin Baryaruha with 4,519 votes (24.06%), Ndyakira Nickolas with 458 votes (2.4%), and Kamukama David with 34 votes (0.18%).
The results were announced by Bushenyi District NRM Electoral Commission Registrar Mr. Barekye Archangel at 4:58 PM on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The election was fiercely contested, generating considerable tension and sparking heated debate amongst the candidates. Analysts suggest the victory represents a significant setback for a group of seven wealthy and influential individuals who had united against Basajjabalaba, the son of NRM District Chairperson El Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba. Despite the intense competition, Basajjabalaba’s decisive win has brought a sense of calm to the municipality.
End.
