IBANDA, UGANDA – In a bold move, teachers in Ibanda District, Uganda, have announced their boycott of the upcoming World Teachers’ Day celebrations. Led by Mr. Twinomugisha Feleciano, the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) Ibanda District Chairperson, the educators are standing united in their demand for better working conditions and higher salaries.
The Reason Behind the Boycott:
The teachers, already on strike for 16 days, feel that celebrating World Teachers’ Day would be hypocritical when their concerns are being ignored. “We cannot continue to pretend to be happy on a day that only reminds us of how neglected and underpaid we are,” Mr. Twinomugisha said.

A Cry for Change:
The boycott is a call to action for the authorities to address the pressing issues affecting teachers in Ibanda District. With poor working conditions and low salaries at the forefront of their demands, the teachers are determined to make their voices heard.
The Future of Education:
As the strike continues, the fate of education in Ibanda District hangs in the balance. Will the authorities listen to the teachers’ pleas, or will the boycott mark the beginning of a longer struggle for change? Only time will tell.
End.
