KAMPALA,UGANDA The Woman Member of Parliament for Bushenyi District, Hon. Katusiime Annet Mugisha, on Thursday used Prime Minister’s Time in Parliament to seek a clear update on the status of the Bwizibwera – Nyakambu – Buhweju – Nsika – Kyabugyimbi – Nyakabirizi road, with a spur to Kabwohe.
Hon. Katusiime appreciated the Ministry of Works and Transport for its comprehensive report on roads earmarked for construction in this financial year presented two weeks ago, but expressed concern that the strategic Bwizibwera-Kabwohe road was missing from the list.
She reminded the House that the road is already captured in the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV) and was included in the National Budget for FY 2026/2027.

“This road was left out and yet it is in NDP IV and it is in the national budget for the 2026/2027 financial year. Our leaders from the region would like to know what happened,” Hon. Katusiime submitted on the floor of Parliament.
She called upon government to update the people of Bushenyi, Buhweju, Mbarara and Sheema on the fate of the road.
Responding to her concern, the Minister of State for Works and Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama, assured Parliament that the road has not been abandoned.
According to the Minister, roads that were not mentioned in the earlier statement are under planning, with government currently updating feasibility studies and engaging financial institutions. He added that the Ministry is using direct procurement for the studies.
Hon. Byamukama further disclosed that he had held a one-on-one meeting with Hon. Katusiime two weeks prior and had briefed her on the same. He reaffirmed his commitment before the House that physical works on the road will commence in this financial year once the feasibility studies are concluded.
The Bwizibwera-Kabwohe road is considered a key economic corridor linking Mbarara, Buhweju, Bushenyi and Sheema districts and is expected to ease transport of agricultural produce and improve access to services.
