Kampala,Uganda – Hon. Amanya Cohen Kyampene, newly sworn-in MP for Igara West Constituency, has called on residents to work with him to advance government programs aimed at lifting households out of poverty.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament in Kampala after taking oath, Hon. Cohen said he would serve as a bridge between the people and government and act as their voice in the House. He pledged to unite Igara by ending political divisions and hostility, and invited those who contested against him to join hands for the development of Bushenyi.
“Election period is over. Now it is time for reconciliation, rebuilding unity, and working together to ensure the people of Igara move out of poverty and improve their households,” he said.

In his first 90 days, Hon. Cohen said his focus will be on fighting for tea and other crop farmers to secure fair prices and access to markets. He promised to support farmers with training in modern agricultural methods and to supply seedlings for tea, coffee, and other crops so every household can achieve food security and income.
He also committed to lobbying for projects that benefit the community, including clean water, electricity, roads, schools, and health facilities. Traders and residents will be prioritized alongside farmers in his development agenda.
Hon. Cohen further pledged to fight corruption, unite Bushenyi leaders, and push for development. He urged residents to shift focus from politics to household productivity now that elections are over.
“Tea farmers, be strong. I have a big plan for you. Relax and trust me,” he assured, saying he would work to make their long-held goals a reality.
