MITOOMA, UGANDA – Hon. Agasha Juliet Bashiisha’s Nyakizinga Rally Signals a Turning Point in 2026 Mitooma Elections:
On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Hon. Agasha Juliet Bashiisha, the Woman Member of Parliament for Mitooma District, officially launched her campaign for the 2026 general elections. The campaign kick-off took place in Nyakizinga Sub County, where she attracted a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters. Following the successful rally, her campaign continued on to Mutara Sub County, with further events planned across the district.
Defections Mark the Rally:

One of the most notable features of the Nyakizinga rally was the massive movement of supporters and campaign coordinators from rival candidates to Agasha’s camp. Many of these new supporters had previously coordinated or campaigned for her opponents. Notably, Godfrey, son of Musiime of Nyakihita—formerly a coordinator for Dr. Rosebello Twinomujuni for Ruhinda South—and Mununuzi Amon, who coordinated for Dr. Rosebello in Mutara, both pledged their support for Hon. Juliet.
Several other former coordinators from various camps declared their allegiance to Agasha during the rally, expressing high hopes for improved service delivery. According to them, Hon. Juliet’s reputation for hard work and commitment to developmental progress convinced them to join her team.
Muhumuza Elias, previously supporting Rosebello; Wamara, formerly with Faith Ikondere; and Musica Katekyere, another of Ikondere’s former supporters, were among the many who openly joined Agasha. In total, at least 50 people publicly defected to her camp during the rally, with some confirming their decision but choosing to remain anonymous.
A Potential Turning Point:
It appears the rally may mark a major shift in the dynamics of the upcoming election. Hon. Agasha Juliet Bashiisha, who narrowly lost the NRM primaries to Kyarampe Rebecca amid allegations of irregularities such as voter bribery and manipulation, is now consolidating support from members of rival factions. While Faith Ikondere is contesting as an independent, many of her former coordinators have now joined Agasha. Dr. Rosebello Twinomujuni, who decided against running as an independent, has also seen many of her supporters move towards the incumbent MP.
This influx of supporters significantly boosts Agasha’s campaign, especially amid reports that the irregularities that marred the party primaries are unlikely to be repeated in the official Electoral Commission polls.
Furthermore, Agasha’s selection to join the team soliciting support for President Museveni—even as an independent candidate—positions her as a bridge-builder and an effective lobbyist for local development projects. She continues to rally behind President Museveni, affirming her commitment to the NRM’s development agenda, and highlighting her efforts in securing meaningful change for Mitooma during her current term.
Hon. Agasha Juliet’s Message:
In her address to supporters, Hon. Agasha Juliet Bashiisha expressed gratitude to the people of Mitooma for their renewed faith in her leadership. She thanked attendees from all constituencies, emphasizing that her work had only just begun.
“I was opening the garden; I will plant, and you will see how it will yield for all Mitooma,” she said. “Thank you—together with God and your support, we shall win.”
The Nyakizinga rally highlighted Agasha’s growing appeal across party lines and rival camps, potentially setting the stage for a transformed political landscape in Mitooma District as the 2026 elections approach.
