Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been dismissed following a scandal involving the leak of over 400 explicit videos allegedly featuring him and the spouses of high-ranking officials.
The termination, formalized through Decree No. 118/2024 on November 4, cited “misconduct and behavior incompatible with public office.” The videos, which reportedly depict Engonga in compromising situations with multiple women, including the wives of prominent government figures, sparked public outrage and prompted the government’s swift action.
The scandal has brought heightened scrutiny not only on Engonga but also on his family. His father, Baltasar Engonga Edjo, currently serves as the president of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), further amplifying public and media attention on the family’s influence in national and regional governance.
In a statement, the government cited “family-related and social behavior” as grounds for Engonga’s removal, underscoring its commitment to ethical standards and accountability in public service. This decision has fueled widespread discussion on the need for integrity among public officials, with many citizens calling for increased transparency in the country’s governance.

The incident marks a pivotal moment for Equatorial Guinea, where public outcry has highlighted a growing demand for reform in standards of conduct for government officials.
