Rubirizi, Uganda – The Electoral Commission (EC) in Rubirizi District is warning against the spread of misinformation about the LC1 and LC2 elections, emphasizing that nominations and voting days have not yet been announced. Anyone sharing false information will face punishment and court charges.
The LC1 elections are scheduled to take place between March and April 2026, according to Minister of Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi. The EC is preparing for the elections, and detailed polling dates and guidelines will be released soon.
Mr. Twinomujuni Nickolas, the Returning Officer, urges citizens to remain calm and patient, as the EC is ready to ensure transparent elections. The elections will be conducted using the traditional lining-up method across 293 villages in Rubirizi and 70,000 villages nationwide.

Mr. Tumwesigye Mangara, an LC1 candidate, is concerned about low voter turnout due to the lining-up method and requests the EC to consider using ballot papers instead.
