Bushenyi,Uganda – Bushenyi District celebrated on Thursday as Hon. Katusiime Annet Mugisha was sworn in as Woman Member of Parliament for the 12th Parliament of Uganda, reaffirming the trust she has built through years of grassroots service.
The official ceremony took place at Parliament House in Kampala, where she joined fellow MPs-elect under Uganda’s national colors. Celebrations with constituents and dignitaries followed at Nsambya Gardens. For Bushenyi, the day marked recognition of advocacy, community engagement, and development work that have earned her the title “Mother of Bushenyi.”
Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa served as Chief Guest. He was joined by leaders including Hon. Cohen Kyampene of Igara West, Hajji Iddi Bassajabalaba of Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, Dr. Sylvia of Rukiga, outgoing Mitooma Woman MP Hon. Juliet Bashisha, Minister of Local Government Hon. Raphael Magezi, and Prof. Tarsis Bazana Kabwegyere. Religious leaders, RDCs, and community figures were also present.

Hon. Katusiime’s tenure has focused on practical service delivery. She has pushed for repairs to the Ishaka–Mbarara Road and advocated for speed humps on the Ishaka–Kitagata Road to reduce accidents. Her lobbying has expanded safe water systems across Kyamuhunga, Bumbaire, Ruhumuro, Kyabugimbi, Kyeizooba, Nyabubare, Bitooma, Kakanju, and Ibaare, cutting the distance women and children walk for water.
In health, several centers have been refurbished and restocked, with new ambulances deployed for emergency referrals. Education has also been a priority, with infrastructure upgrades in primary and secondary schools district-wide.
Backed by her husband Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha and son Geno Silver Mugisha, Hon. Katusiime is known for her accessibility at church functions, community meetings, and local events across Bushenyi’s sub-counties. Her focus on women, youth, and vulnerable groups has cemented her reputation as a hands-on, community-centered leader.
Speaking after the celebrations, Hon. Katusiime thanked Bushenyi for its continued support. “Bushenyi District remains my first priority. This time, I am going to work harder than before,” she said, pledging to consolidate gains in health, water, roads, and education while pushing for youth employment and women’s economic empowerment.
