NEWS- Mbarara city council law enforcement team on Tuesday 28th May 2024 erected blockades at Katete bridge to block vehicles from using the 50- year-old dilapidated Katete bridge on River Rwizi.
This was after the bridge developed cracks while a section of it caved in, posing a risk to road users , especially motorists.
According to Assy Abireebe Tumwesigiire the Mbarara city clerk,car owners have now been advised to use the Nyamitanga route. He said only motorcycles are allowed to use the bridge.
According to Tumwesigiire,the central government has already earmarked shs.5.2billion for the construction of Katete bridge in the next financial year.
Katete bridge connects Nyamitanga ward in Katete cell and Lugazi village in Kakoba ward in Mbarara City South Division.
