KANUNGU – The Minister for Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, has commended Kambuga Hospital for its good service delivery while directing the immediate promotion of long-serving doctors at both Kambuga Hospital and Kanungu Health Centre IV Katate.
The Minister made the remarks during his monitoring tour of both health facilities in Kanungu District on Monday.
Speaking at the Out Patients Department at Kambuga Hospital, Minister Balaam said he was impressed that there was no crowding of patients in the waiting line, noting that all early patients had already been attended to by health workers.

However, the Minister said the hospital has one major problem — failure to promote doctors who have served for many years.
Minister Balaam expressed shock that some doctors at Kambuga have worked for 26 years without promotion, while juniors who joined one or two years ago have been promoted.
He accused the District Service Commission of promoting relatives, wives and girlfriends instead of hardworking staff, describing it as corruption, nepotism and favouritism.
He directed the district leadership to ensure that five doctors of Kambuga Hospital and four doctors of Kanungu Health Centre IV Katate are promoted immediately as long as there is a wage bill.
The Clinical Medical Officer at Kambuga Hospital, Dr. Kasuda, highlighted several challenges affecting the hospital including understaffing and inadequate beds, among others, which he wants addressed to improve service delivery.
The Minister in response urged the hospital administration to write a comprehensive report to the Minister of Health for redress.
The Minister also inspected Kanungu Health Centre IV Katate where he found poor hygiene and sanitation, especially in both patients’ and staff latrines.
He said the dirty latrines pose a health risk to patients and health workers and urged the facility in-charge to immediately address the challenge before it escalates into a bigger problem.
Minister Balaam said government is committed to improving health services and rewarding hardworking health workers.
