BUHWEJU, UGANDA – Residents and local leaders of Ryakatanga Village, Rwanjere Parish, Burere Sub-county in Buhweju West Constituency, Buhweju District, have thanked Buhweju Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Nnamara Annet Oyes Byamukama for her swift response after their property and plantations were destroyed by heavy rains.
Residents who spoke to our reporter said that on Tuesday, 22nd September 2026, a heavy downpour characterized by strong winds, fast-running water, mud and hailstorms hit the area, leaving houses destroyed, gardens ruined and almost all banana plantations flattened, especially in Ryakatanga and neighbouring villages.
This forced them to make a public outcry to their local leaders, district leadership, Members of Parliament and other relevant offices for help.

Our website has learnt through ground sources in Buhweju District that today, Monday 28th September 2026, the Woman MP, Hon. Nnamara Annet Oyes Byamukama, through her coordinators, delivered maize seeds to the affected residents as a way of restoring food security in the area, while promising to lobby for more support.
Residents expressed gratitude for her donation, saying that once planted, the seeds will help them get food and earn some money to pay school fees for their children and buy other basic necessities, since most of them depend on agriculture for survival.

Hon. Nnamara Annet Oyes has always responded to such catastrophes by extending timely help to affected communities.
Recently, following an official appeal by Buhweju District Local Government to the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Nnamara Annet Oyes Byamukama, popularly known as Omuteganda, responded swiftly to the plight of landslide victims in Ndurumo Cell, Rukiri Parish, Bihanga Sub-county.
On 20th August 2026 at around 3:00pm, after two hours of heavy downpour, a catastrophic landslide accompanied by fast-running water, mud and heavy boulders swept through homesteads in Ndurumo, destroying houses, gardens and livestock.
In response to the call, Hon. Nnamara delivered immediate relief to the victims.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms. Tushemerirwe Dinavence, the mother of a missing 7-month-old baby, confirmed receipt of the items:
“We have received items from Hon. Nnamara Annet Oyes Byamukama such as maize flour, blankets, basins, saucepans, books, sanitary pads, beans, maize seeds and soap, among others. She has been lobbying for us and is still lobbying.”
Residents in Bihanga thanked the Woman MP for being the first leader to respond physically and with tangible support, while continuing to lobby the central government for comprehensive assistance.
END.
