The death of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV at 34 is a profound loss to the Royal Family, the Batooro and the nation. At such a painful moment, words are inadequate. We can only turn to God, who is “near to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18).
My heart goes especially to Her Majesty Queen Mother Best Kemigisa. Maama, you have endured a unique journey of love, sacrifice and responsibility.
Having lost your husband at a tender age, you raised your only son through the extraordinary circumstances of becoming King at only three years old. You walked with him through childhood, kingship and the many challenges that came with it. To lose him now at only 34 must be a pain beyond words.

My heartfelt sympathy also goes to Princess Elizabeth Bagaya and Princess Komuntale, and to the entire Royal Family.
To the Batooro, I appeal for restraint, compassion and unity. There will be time to discuss succession and other matters concerning the future of the Kingdom. But this is first and foremost a time to mourn the King and allow the Royal Family to bury their son, brother and loved one with dignity.
Let us not allow grief to be compounded by division. Matters that can wait should wait. Let us preserve the dignity of the fallen King and the unity of his people.
May the Lord comfort Queen Kemigisa, the Royal Family and all the Batooro. May He grant us wisdom, restraint and peace, and preserve the unity of the Kingdom of Tooro.
