Bushenyi, Uganda – Kyabugimbi Health Centre IV in Igara East Constituency is set to be elevated to a district hospital, with Bushenyi Woman MP Hon. Katusiime Annet Mugisha championing the upgrade to improve maternal and general health services.

The project was officially launched today, Friday 29th May 2026. UPDF’s Major Chris Guma will head the construction. He said President Yoweri Museveni entrusted the project to the UPDF to guarantee quality work.

Hon. Katusiime said the upgraded facility will include a theatre, a new maternity ward for safe deliveries, and improved antenatal and postnatal care to save lives. It will also be equipped with an outpatient department (OPD), doctors’ accommodation, and other offices.

Dr. Nobert Byaruhanga, the in-charge of maternal health, said the facility receives more than 300 women monthly. At least 60 of them require caesarean sections. He noted that mothers come from Bushenyi, Sheema, Rubirizi, Buhweju and Mitooma districts, and thanked Hon. Katusiime for advocating for the upgrade.
Residents and local leaders who spoke to our reporter, Jonathan Agumeneitwe, commended Hon. Katusiime for prioritizing life-saving health infrastructure. They also appreciated the NRM government under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for responding to community concerns.

End.
