Kitagata,Sheema – A 46-year-old man, Barinaba Bananas, has been found dead in a suspected suicide by drowning in Kyeibanga 1, Kitagata, Sheema District.
According to local leaders, Bananas had been battling despair following an accident he suffered while working in Kyegegwa. He had been undergoing treatment but recently told relatives he could no longer continue selling family land to cover medical expenses, fearing his children would be left landless.
“He said he was going to kill himself to leave the land for his children,” said Nazario Bahikira, the LC1 chairperson of Kyeibanga 1.

Residents last saw Bananas around 11:00 a.m. yesterday walking in a nearby wetland. When asked, he told inquirers he was “just on a tour.” His body was discovered this morning, face down in a dam near the wetland.
Police from Kitagata Sub-county responded to the scene and retrieved the body. A walking stick, a bottle of liquor, and a torn UGX 10,000 note were recovered nearby.
By press time, police had not issued an official statement on the incident.
