Rubirizi,Uganda – A wave of excitement swept through Rubirizi’s sports fraternity after Woman MP-Elect Arinitwe Jeniva Nalongo delivered a full set of jerseys to the district athletics team and topped it with a Shs1 million contribution to cover travel costs for upcoming national competitions.
The gesture, hailed as a major morale boost, drew praise from the District Sports Officer, games teachers, headteachers, and athletes who gathered to receive the donation. Officials singled out Mr. Byamukama Innocent and the Nalongo family for their consistent investment in youth sports, noting that Team Nalongo has already equipped primary school football teams across the district and firmly backed Rubirizi’s squad in the Ankole tournament.
Represented by Rugyenda Muslim Primary School headteacher Madam Nagaba Zubeda, Team Nalongo reaffirmed its long-term commitment to nurturing local talent and keeping athletics alive in the district. “This is about more than medals,” Nalongo’s team said. “It’s about giving our young people a platform to compete, build discipline, and dream beyond their villages.”

With the Ankole Cup 2026 looming and national meets on the horizon, the athletes now prepare in new colors and with critical financial backing for travel, carrying the hopes of a district that sees sports as a path to opportunity and pride.
