Bushenyi,Uganda – The Sovereignty Bill 2026 is not only a sign of a coup d’état but also disastrous to the freedom, liberty, and tranquility of Ugandans at large.
Uganda is a sovereign state with all the characteristics of sovereignty, including clear boundaries, independent decision-making, international recognition, and a monopoly of force. Moreover, our Constitution already has various Acts and laws that address almost all the clauses in the Bill.
Introducing this Bill now, at a time when the country is in the quagmire of a post-election era, and the speed at which it is being pushed, suggests we should question the motive of its movers, not just the content.

Bills should be introduced to answer pressing political questions. I see no emergency that requires this Bill. The urgent political questions in Uganda today include election credibility, succession planning, civil liberties, the military’s role in politics, and whether institutions can ensure stability beyond Museveni. Other critical issues are healthcare, education, infrastructure, youth unemployment, and poverty. These should be the focus, not this Bill. I believe its movers should be charged with treason, and I implore all Ugandans of good conscience to raise the alarm against it.
Lastly, the Bill appears to target certain individuals or opposition political organizations, a dangerous move against the democratic principles of our country.
End.

When will the youth of this generation achieve financial independence and property ownership, especially as the government introduces bills that threaten our economic sovereignty? It is disheartening to consider our future prospects when the Presidency allocates 200 million shillings to each Member of Parliament for celebrations, while the average citizen struggles to find stability. Are we destined to work solely for the benefit of the state?
Is that the way how other countries behave on finances?
Corruption!! Ignorance!! In our leaders
