Nyakasharu,Rubirizi – Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturo, MP-elect for Bunyaruguru, has pledged to donate two computers and CCTV cameras to Bunyaruguru People’s SACCO to boost operations and security.
He made the pledge while addressing delegates at the SACCO’s Annual General Meeting held at Maria Sedes Primary School in Nyakasharu, Rubirizi District.
Hon. Cadet urged SACCO leaders to start income-generating business projects in the community to increase revenue and expand assets. He said SACCOs should not rely on savings alone, noting that this has slowed growth for many SACCOs and community saving groups.

“It is high time for SACCOs to diversify beyond savings and loans into community businesses that boost revenue, share capital, and membership,” he said.
He encouraged members to work hard to eradicate poverty in their families but cautioned against taking multiple loans. He stressed that cooperation among members is key to SACCO growth, adding that saving little can yield significant benefits. He urged members to maintain a strong saving culture for sustainable development.
Rubirizi District Commercial Officer Twebaze Criscensio said SACCOs are helping government fight poverty and drive financial inclusion. He noted that many members can now pay school fees and improve household welfare.
He warned against keeping money at home, saying the practice has fueled theft and insecurity. He urged residents to embrace saving, adding that development should not be left to government alone. “People must fight poverty, hunger, and domestic violence in their homes through savings and income-generating activities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Innocent Nuwagaba, Chairperson of the Board for Bunyaruguru People’s SACCO, thanked Hon. Cadet for founding the SACCO, saying it has helped the community escape poverty through loans and savings.
He highlighted the SACCO’s performance: UGX 75 million in profits, a loan portfolio increase of UGX 178 million, share capital of UGX 68 million, savings of UGX 79 million, and membership of 1,314.
He assured members that the SACCO is growing steadily and urged continued support to ensure sustainability and development.
