Rubirizi,Uganda – The Rural Initiative for Poverty Alleviation (RIPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uganda Agriculture Insurance Consortium (UIC) to provide insurance for animals against loss from all causes. The signing was held today at UIC Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.
Under the MoU, all RIPA beneficiaries with cows and goats will receive a 50% insurance cost cover from the Government of Uganda. Beneficiaries will pay only 50% of the total premium. In case of loss, they will be compensated up to 80% of the animal’s estimated value at the time of cover.
The scheme currently applies to RIPA cows and goats only. It will later be extended to cover other business lines, including crops, chicken, fish, and other products.

RIPA was represented by Executive Vice Chairman Vincent Tumusiime Bamugaya and Programs Director Mrs. Rosebell Akiiki Tumusiime. UIC was represented by CEO Mr. Munya and the Company Secretary, among other staff.
This is a major milestone for communities receiving cows and goats from RIPA.
