Moscow, Russia – Russian forces have gained 50 square miles of Ukraine’s territory, an area slightly larger than two Manhattan Islands, over the past four weeks (Jan. 27–Feb. 24, 2026), according to RM’s analysis of ISW data. This is less than half of the 106 square miles gained in the previous period (Dec. 30, 2025–Jan. 27, 2026). However, there’s a discrepancy in reports, with Ukraine’s DeepState OSINT group stating Russian forces gained 5 square miles from Feb. 17–24, 2026, while ISW data indicates a loss of 33 square miles.
Meanwhile, Russian and Ukrainian negotiators are set to meet in Geneva for U.S.-mediated talks on Feb. 26–27, focusing on Ukraine’s postwar security and control of Donetsk region. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff expects a possible meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin within three weeks ¹ ² ³.
What do you think about the progress of these talks? Would you like to know more about the Donetsk region or Ukraine’s security concerns?
