NTUNGAMO, UGANDA – The Emeritus Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Stanley Ntagali, has emphasized the need for priests to enrich their scope of knowledge and qualifications to stay ahead of their congregations. Speaking during a thanksgiving service for Ven. Rev. Dr. Azaria Mwebembezi, the Archdeacon of Kibatsi Archdeaconry, South Ankole Diocese, Bishop Ntagali noted that many pews are now more educated and informed than clerics, having attained PhDs, master’s degrees, and other qualifications.
Bishop Ntagali stressed that further studies in ministry work enable priests to appreciate various aspects of society and stay updated, particularly with advancements in artificial intelligence. He also urged religious leaders to focus on preaching the good news of Jesus Christ to all parishioners, rather than being selective. The South Ankole Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe, praised Ven. Rev. Dr. Mwebembezi for his commitment and encouraged him to shape the community and practice what he was taught.
Ven. Rev. Dr. Mwebembezi, who recently graduated with a PhD in MBA from Kabale University, expressed gratitude for completing his studies and encouraged parishioners to spread the word of God. The event was attended by notable figures, including Prof. John Mugisha Katekyeza, Vice Chancellor of Bishop Stuart University, and Gen. Jim Wills Byarugaba.
