RUBIRIZI, UGANDA – The Ripple Effect Support Project, a community initiative aimed at fighting poverty and promoting household-based income generation among vulnerable families, handed over startup items to beneficiaries in Rutoto Sub-county headquarters on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Hundreds of youth, parents, stakeholders, and local leaders gathered to witness the official distribution of equipment meant to help beneficiaries begin small businesses and reduce unemployment.
According to Mr. Tamuzade Robert, the Rubirizi District Project Coordinator for Ripple Effect, the initiative was designed to help young people start income-generating activities right from their homes by empowering them with the basic equipment they need to work and earn. “Many of our young people have ideas and energy but lack the tools and capital to start. Ripple Effect is here to bridge that gap,” he emphasized.
The items handed over included bicycles, deep freezers, chaff cutters, ice cream machines, ice boxes, cooking oil, spiral mixers, sewing machines, stainless steel buckets, dough mixers, and water pumping machines, among others. These equipment will enable beneficiaries to start small enterprises such as tailoring, retail trading, ice cream and juice vending, agricultural processing, and animal feed production.

Mr. Turyatemba Milton, the LC III Chairperson of Rutoto sub-county, thanked Ripple Effect for supporting the youth in the community, saying the project is not only about giving material support but also about promoting self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and long-term development at the family level.
The Rubirizi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Kinene Ahamedi, commended Ripple Effect for working alongside government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) to uplift the youth. He warned beneficiaries against selling the donated equipment for quick money, stating that anyone found selling or misusing the items would be arrested and charged according to the law.
Beneficiaries, including Ashaba Devis from Rwemitagu village, expressed deep appreciation to Ripple Effect for the donation, describing it as a “turning point” in their lives. “This support has given us hope. Most of us were idle and frustrated, but now we have something to do. I will use my machine responsibly and ensure it benefits my family and community,” Ashaba said.
The district community development officer, Hon. Mbonye Mark Levis, encouraged the youth to take advantage of the opportunity, avoid idleness, and focus on productive work for a better future. Leaders, including Mr. Musoke Paul, the sub-county chief of Rutoto Sub-county, and Mr. Nshekanabo Amidu Kaunya, the deputy chief administrative officer of Rubirizi, urged parents and local leaders to own the assets, monitor and support the youth beneficiaries, and help them form working groups that can access more opportunities in the future.
The event concluded with renewed hope and unity of purpose among the youth, parents, and leaders, all pledging to use the Ripple Effect program as a stepping stone toward a peaceful, productive, and prosperous Rubirizi District.
