KAMPALA, UGANDA – A Kampala-based technician has been arrested for supplying illegal gaming machine parts, with nearly 400 slot machine motherboards seized in a raid at his shop in Lungujja. Asuman Wadedeya was picked up during an evening operation led by the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (LGRB) and community informants.
The premises yielded 399 motherboards, 15 Chinese-made slot machines, and spare parts. Wadedeya, a known gaming machine technician and spare parts dealer, is currently detained at CPS Kampala and will face charges at Makindye Standards Court.
This arrest is part of Operation Mashine Haramu, a campaign targeting unlicensed gaming equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and operators. Uganda’s licensed gaming sector generated 150 billion shillings in tax revenue in 2022/23, but regulators say illegal operators deny the state significant revenue and expose communities to unregulated gambling.

The LGRB urges the public to report illegal dealers to help “root them out and protect society.” Recent confiscations include over 50 machines in Masaka and Mpigi districts, with several operators arrested.
End.
