MITOOMA – Mitooma district roads committee members have been shocked after finding most of the roads unit vehicles in a very poor mechanical state and are just parked at the district headquarters like dolls.
The Committee members were inspecting the vehicles briefly before the meeting on Monday 28th October 2024 at Mitooma district Council hall.
The Mitooma district roads committee is headed by Ruhinda South MP Hon Captain Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda and they were inspecting the vehicles in presence of the Rdc Mr Kibuuka Amooti , District Chairman Mr Benon Karyeija, CAO Mr Fred Kizito, Town Clerks among others.

Among the issues that itched the members especially parliamentarians is that the grader is grounded and most of its parts have even been teared out. When members saw it they wondered how the district roads committee has been operating without a grader yet they claim that they are working on several roads.
The district Engineer Mr John Baptist Tumwebaze says they have been using the available vehicles/trucks to work on various roads and have been working under hard conditions so thats why even why some of the work is not yet done.
However some of the members including the district woman Hon Agasha Juliet Bashisha trashed Engineer’s claims stressing that its really absurd to find the government spending alot of money on road unit but the people responsible to use it decide to do their own things and spoil government projects.
After learning that the district road unit has six vehicles, she even wondered how such vehicles are driven by only three people as alleged by the district engineer.
Furthermore, only two out of the six road vehicles (trucks and tractors) were found in a good mechanical/operational condition but others were just parked some with blown tyres, no batteries, among other problems.
The Roads Committe Chairperson Honourable Captain Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda directed the district engineer to immediately work on repairing all the vehicles/machines and employ more drivers stressing that “government provides funds so that Ugandans get better services”.
