Journalists in Western Uganda have been urged to acquire knowledge and skills to effectively report on standards, quality assurance, and accurate measurements to promote consumer protection.
The call was made during a three-day training organized by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) in partnership with TradeMark Africa and Ultimate Media.
Speaking during the training, Ivan Lukanda from UNBS said the standards body will continue working closely with the police to inspect companies and remove expired goods from the market. He warned that selling expired products poses serious health risks, including diseases such as Cancer, and requires strict enforcement to protect consumers.

Lukanda reminded journalists that the media plays a key role in educating the public about standards, quality assurance, and proper product labeling. Daniel Arora, Head of Department for Market Surveillance at UNBS, advised entrepreneurs to register with the standards body to avoid dealing in substandard commodities.
