Ntungamo, Uganda – The Ntungamo District Commercial Officer, Mr. Ezra Aryanyijuka, has cautioned Sacco users against the habit of multiple borrowing and misusing loans acquired from Saccos for luxury purposes. Speaking during a zonal mobilization meeting with Kajara People’s Sacco Limited board members, Sacco members, delegates, and joining members on August 6, 2025, Mr. Aryanyijuka noted that some Sacco members tend to misuse loans by paying dowries, visiting family members, or indulging in luxuries such as attending bars and gaming centers.
Mr. Aryanyijuka emphasized that it is illogical for a Sacco member to join without the intention of acquiring a loan, stressing that loan applicants should have a clear plan in place before requesting funds. The Kajara People’s Sacco chairperson, Mr. Maj. Gen. Jim Willis, echoed the DCO’s sentiments, urging Sacco members to stop multiple borrowing and loan misuse, which he noted had contributed to the collapse of some Saccos.
The General Manager of the Sacco, Mr. Akamukwasa Yusuf, reported a reduction in defaulters compared to previous years and encouraged non-members to join the Sacco, save, and buy shares to boost its development. He emphasized that cooperation among members is key to the Sacco’s growth and advised that saving little can yield significant benefits.

The Sacco, which is now 25 years old, has over 800 members. Rev. Didas Niwamanya thanked the Sacco team for their service and shared his personal experience of borrowing from the Sacco to buy a plantation. The Sacco Marketing boss, Ms. Agirembabazi Asasira, highlighted the various types of loans offered, including business, agriculture, school fees, salary, emergency, and group loans.
In attendance was Ms. Loyce Amagara, a Sacco member, who suggested that the committee should hold general meetings after board committee meetings with delegates.
End.
