Rukungiri, Uganda – Police in Rukungiri District are investigating the suspected arson and murder of a couple, Byamukama Isaac (30), a boda boda rider, and his wife, Akatuhurira Christine (27). The incident occurred on July 12, 2025, at their home in Ncerere village, Kabinga parish, Buhunga sub-county.
According to police reports, area chairperson Mr. Kaganga Lawrence received a call around 11:00 AM from a resident, Mr. Kariisa, reporting smoke emanating from the couple’s locked house. Unable to reach the victims by phone, Mr. Lawrence rushed to the scene and discovered the house engulfed in flames.
With the assistance of others, entry was gained through a rear fence. Although a back door was open, the bedroom door was locked from the outside. Forced entry revealed the couple’s charred bodies and destroyed property within the bedroom.
Police were immediately notified. The scene was processed, evidence collected, witness statements recorded, and the bodies transported to Rwakabengo HC3 mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
“This was a barbaric and malicious act,” stated ASP Maate Elly, Kigezi Police Spokesperson. “We are committed to identifying and apprehending those responsible and bringing them to justice.” The investigation is ongoing.
