Kamwezi,Rukiga – Police in Rukiga District have arrested 31-year-old Bosco Byaruhanga of Kakamba Cell, Kibanda Parish, Kamwezi Sub-county, for allegedly assaulting 64-year-old Vastine Zabanita of the same address, leading to her death.
The incident occurred at about 00:40am on 12th May 2026. According to police, the deceased had gone outside to ease herself when her two young sons, Naturinda Amos and Arinda Saul, heard her fall and cry out for help. When the boys went to assist her, the suspect allegedly threw a stone at them.
Neighbors responded to the alarm and found the suspect had taken the victim to his house, where he continued to assault her. Area Chairman Mr. Tusiime Enock and residents rescued her and rushed her to Kamwezi Health Centre with serious injuries. The matter was reported to police.
Vastine was pronounced dead at around 1:30pm the same day.
ASP Elly Maate, Kigezi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He said officers from Kamwezi Police Station visited and documented the scene, recorded witness statements, and arrested the suspect, who remains in detention. The body is at Kamwezi Health Centre awaiting postmortem.
“People should desist from acts of lawlessness, or else they face the long arm of the law,” Maate said. Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the motive.
