Ntungamo,Uganda – Rubaare Town Council in Ntungamo District has begun demolishing structures illegally built in road reserves along the busy Ntungamo-Kabale Highway and other streets in the town. Council authorities say the move enforces national urban planning standards.
Authorities have also cleared roadsides of informal businesses, including chapati stalls, chips stalls, tomato stalls, meat-roasting points, mobile kiosks, containers, and banana plantations within the council.
Mr. Emmanuel Byamukama, the Rubaare Town Clerk, said removing kiosks and containers from the streets is a critical step in reclaiming the town’s organized layout.

Byamukama thanked some business owners for complying with the directive before today’s demolition deadline of 15th April 2026.
He urged owners of remaining structures, including toilets and other temporary structures, to comply before the enforcement team intervenes to demolish them.
Some affected traders expressed frustration, citing significant financial losses during the transition.
Daniel Arinda, also known as Omubaagi, a goat meat roaster, said he has meat in his rented room and fears where he will relocate to roast it. He worries that the new location in the park is too hidden from the main road. “Sales will reduce because customers are unlikely to divert from the highway to find us,” he said.
