Kihihi,Kanungu – Territorial Police in Kanungu have arrested 26-year-old Shivan Orishaba for the alleged murder of her two-and-a-half-year-old stepson, Salvan Akankwasa, in Kameme Cell, Kibimbiri Parish, Kihihi Sub-county.
The incident occurred on 1st May 2026, with the child pronounced dead at Kihihi Health Centre IV on 2nd May 2026 at around 11:30 a.m.
It is alleged that the child’s father, Karimu Nyuga, previously lived in Rukungiri District with his first wife, the mother of the deceased. After the couple separated, he relocated to Kameme Village in Kihihi for casual work and began cohabiting with the suspect. They had been living together for about six months.
Two weeks ago, the man brought the child to live with them and the stepmother.
On 1st May 2026, the suspect allegedly assaulted the child severely. He was rushed to Kihihi Health Centre IV where he was admitted but later died yesterday morning.
Police inquiries were initiated, the body was examined, and the suspect was apprehended. Investigations are ongoing.
