Kabale,Uganda – A Kabale-based journalist, Vanansio Mbabazi Kakogoso, has been ordered to make a public apology and withdraw a publication accusing Bushuuro Parish chief, Blessing Mugabi Agaba, of demanding bribes from PDM beneficiaries. The Kabale District Deputy RDC, Michael Muramira Kyakashari, deemed the story, published by The Source UG on March 28th, as false and misleading.
The investigation revealed that locals allegedly quoted in the story hadn’t spoken to Kakogoso about the PDM bribe, and Agaba is a reputable parish chief. Kakogoso’s motives were questioned, with claims he had personal issues with Agaba stemming from his wife not receiving PDM funds.
Deputy RDC Kyakashari called Kakogoso a “negative journalist” and banned him from covering the RDC office. He also urged the Uganda Media Council to take action against Kakogoso for publishing false information. Kakogoso has apologized, but Agaba demands the story’s withdrawal and an apology on the same platforms, threatening to sue if he doesn’t comply.
