Katenga,Mitooma – Former Mitooma District NRM Chairperson Wilberforce Byaboneka is under scrutiny after allegedly assaulting his mother.
The victim, 74-year-old Hope Byaboneka Mushabe, the biological mother of the accused and LC1 Chairperson of Kaakyera II, Bitooma Parish, Katenga Sub-county, Ruhinda County, Mitooma District, was reportedly attacked in her home.
It is alleged that Byaboneka forcefully broke into her house and found her still sleeping before beating her without giving any reason. He only stopped after other siblings intervened and escorted him out.

“I ask the President to intervene. I tried to call General Kahinda Otafiire for help but he did not respond. I fear for my life because if my own son can repeatedly do this, claiming it is a family issue, I might die,” the mother said tearfully.
His sisters, Charity Koburunga and Doreen Kyokusiima, said Byaboneka calls them ignorant and often contacts police whenever they report the matter, insisting he can handle it as a family issue. “Imagine someone breaking the door and forcing himself into our mother’s bedroom. We are very worried,” they said.
It is further alleged that in 2018, he attacked his mother and destroyed her house, forcing her to flee to Kampala. She had nowhere to stay until other siblings built her another house.
However, Wilberforce Byaboneka denied the allegations, claiming they are politically motivated by Chairman Karyeija Benon and other unnamed politicians seeking to tarnish his name.
By press time, the mother was receiving treatment at Mitooma Health Centre IV. The case was reported at Katenga Police Station under SD Ref: 08/24/04/2026.
