RUBIRIZI,UGANDA – Bunyaruguru MP Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturo has urged residents to start small income-generating projects at home to boost household income and promote self-reliance.
Speaking during the launch of the late Beshorora Resource Centre in Ndangaro Parish, Rutoto Subcounty, Hon. Cadet said residents would be better off if every home had a project that brings in extra money for daily needs. The centre is expected to cost over Shs16 million.
He encouraged the community to invest in agriculture, livestock farming, and crafts to increase income, and urged them to stop relying solely on government support.

Hon. Cadet recommended simple, low-cost projects such as growing vegetables like dodo, cabbage, tomatoes, and onions, and making handicrafts to supply to hotels. He said such projects require little capital but can provide steady returns and help develop the local craft industry.
Madam Nayebare Brenda, wife of the late Beshorora, said the resource centre was established to provide information that can improve livelihoods through wise conservation. She also highlighted plans to start a solar-powered community water source in Rutoto to improve an existing well and prevent contamination of the surrounding environment.
Rev. Matsiko Stivin of All Saints Church, Rutoto Subcounty, and Mr. Mbamanya Abu, LC1 Chairperson of Kyanika, said the centre would help people learn new skills, share business ideas, and get guidance on starting and managing small projects.
“Health starts at home. Even a small project brings income and dignity to your household,” they said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nyerinde Frank, Water Engineer for Rubirizi District Local Government, thanked the late Beshorora family for the initiative, saying it would help the government bring water closer to residents. He noted challenges affecting water sources in Rutoto, including electricity supply and water tanks, and said he had procured a water quality testing kit for regular testing.
