Kampala,Uganda – The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has outlined ongoing reforms and technical interventions to strengthen water service delivery, improve efficiency, and reduce system losses across the national network.
Speaking on operational performance, management said non-revenue water remains a key focus, with technical assessments showing losses in some parts of the system range between 10 and 15 percent.
These losses are largely attributed to illegal connections, metering inaccuracies, and technical constraints within sections of the distribution network.

The Corporation also highlighted technical challenges linked to water measurement, particularly in areas where overhead tanks, pressure variations, and multiple connection points affect the accuracy of consumption data.
Management explained that such complexities can create measurement gaps, requiring specialized technical studies and system reviews to guide future improvements.
To address these issues, NWSC is conducting detailed research and pilot assessments to improve metering accuracy and better understand system behavior under varying operational conditions.
The findings are expected to inform enhanced infrastructure planning, improved billing accuracy, and more efficient network management.
Illegal connections and vandalism of water infrastructure were cited as persistent challenges affecting service continuity and operational efficiency.
The Corporation emphasized the need for stronger enforcement, enhanced collaboration with security agencies, and continued public engagement to safeguard water assets.
Management reaffirmed that while some system losses are inherent in large distribution networks, ongoing investments in technology, infrastructure upgrades, and improved monitoring systems will significantly reduce inefficiencies over time.
NWSC called for sustained stakeholder support, including political leadership and community participation, to protect water infrastructure and ensure equitable access to safe and reliable water services.
The Corporation reiterated its commitment to continuous reform, improved operational efficiency, and expanded access to clean and safe water for all Ugandans, in line with national development priorities.
