Dr. Kizza Besigye groomed and inspired a generation of politicians in Uganda. Many of today’s leaders rose to Parliament and national prominence largely through the political capital, courage, and sacrifice he invested in the struggle. His influence shaped careers, movements, and opposition politics as a whole.
Yet, in moments when his own survival and wellbeing are at stake, the silence from some of those he once uplifted is striking. Voices that once spoke loudly alongside him have grown faint, if not entirely absent, when solidarity matters most.
The real irony, as history often shows, is that should he pass on, the same figures may reappear—armed with glowing tributes, speeches of praise, and public gratitude. It is a reminder that true loyalty is proven in difficult moments, not in carefully worded eulogies.
